Trump criticizes ABC News and David Muir, claims network breached debate agreement by fact-checking | Politics

Former President Trump took intention at ABC News over its dealing with of the presidential debate, accusing the network of “violating” its agreement along with his marketing campaign about not having fact-checks in the course of the political showdown. 

Speaking from Trump Tower in New York City on Thursday, Trump renewed his assaults on the Disney-owned network whereas addressing crime on the marketing campaign occasion. 

“And during the debate, I mentioned that and David Muir, a real lightweight,” Trump mentioned. “I had one against three, but I think we did great. But David Muir of ABC, fake news, when I said that crime is way up in our country, he corrected me, he corrected me and so much and it was right what I said. He didn't correct [Vice President Kamala Harris] one time, and what she said was wrong, absolutely wrong. So many different— Charlottesville, she was wrong, all of the different things, almost everything she said, and she was never corrected.

“But he corrected me on crime. He mentioned, ‘No, no, crime has not gone up.' I said crime has gone up massively. He said, ‘I'd like to state for the record that crime has not gone up.'”

Trump went on to allege that ABC News broke the “deal” they struck ahead of the debate. 

“Now you do not know this, however we had a cope with ABC that there can be no corrections of any sort, and they violated the deal. Why? Because they're unhealthy individuals, and they're faux information,” Trump said. “So he did it many instances to me in the course of the debate. He violated the deal. That's the deal, as a result of you may take something and strive and make up tales with it. We had a deal the place that would not occur. You might do no matter you wished as quickly because the debate was over, however he did it in complete violation of what our agreement was. And lots of people standing proper over there [as he looked toward his staff] will inform you precisely what it was, will present you what it was. David Muir has misplaced all credibility.”

The former president also took a swipe at co-moderator Linsey Davis, who provided the first fact-check of the debate against him.

“I by no means heard of her. I by no means need to hear of her. She was horrible. I do not understand how she ever obtained her job within the first place,” Trump said. “But we now have a rustic to save lots of, and we won't have faux information like that. And his rankings need to go down.”

ABC News did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

ABC News sparked fury among conservative critics who blasted Muir and Davis for their hostile treatment of Trump while going easy on Harris, fact-checking him five times while not challenging any of the vice president's claims. 

Trump expressed his regret for not going after the moderators during the debate during his appearance on “Gutfeld!” last week.

“I believe my solely remorse is that I wished to be elegant, and I did not need to go after the anchors. I want I did, in a method,” Trump said.

“I used to be very unfairly handled by the anchor. I'm not followers of these guys anymore – and his hair was higher 5 years in the past,” Trump quipped, referring to Muir, adding, “That occurs with the clock.”

Trump has yet to commit to another debate against Harris. The former president appeared to reject a proposed CNN debate set for Oct. 23 that Harris accepted, saying it was “too late” since early voting has started weeks ahead. 

That said, Trump left the door open for another showdown, telling Fox News' Aishah Hasnie, “Maybe if I obtained in the appropriate temper.”

While Harris seems wanting to debate Trump once more, she beforehand didn't settle for proposed debates by Fox News and NBC News that Trump agreed to previous to the ABC News debate.
