‘SNL’ Mocks Syracuse Native David Muir on Season 50 Premiere, Generates Buzz | Entertainment

“Saturday Night Live” is poking enjoyable at Syracuse native David Muir with its fiftieth season premiere.

The NBC comedy returned over the weekend with a chilly open joke about Muir, performed by “SNL” forged member Andrew Dismukes, after the ABC “World News Tonight” anchor moderated the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris (performed by Maya Rudolph) and former President Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson).

“For ABC News, I’m David Muir. And is it just me, or is it kind of handsome in here?” Dismukes mentioned in character as Muir, furrowing his forehead with a smirk. “I had hoped the takeaway of the debate I moderated would be my striking good looks, but unfortunately it was whether or not I was biased towards the Democrats, which… Duh.”

The parody of Muir then tried to show equity by displaying footage from each candidates’ rallies, that includes Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz, Andy Samberg as Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff, Bowen Yang as JD Vance and Dana Carvey as President Joe Biden. Rudolph, Samberg and Carvey are all alumni of “Saturday Night Live,” returning as visitor stars for the 2024 election season.

Dismukes’ Muir appeared briefly between segments, saying Harris’ marketing campaign occasion “seemed like a party” whereas Trump’s occasion was “entering its third hour” and featured a bulletproof glass in reference to latest assassination makes an attempt. The president is a 1968 graduate of Syracuse University’s College of Law and married his first spouse Neilia Hunter, an Auburn, N.Y., native and a Syracuse University homecoming queen, in 1966. The couple lived on Stinard Avenue in Syracuse whereas Biden attended SU’s regulation college and she or he taught on the outdated Bellevue Heights School within the metropolis.

Multiple actors have performed Biden on “Saturday Night Live,” together with Jim Carrey, James Austin Johnson, Jason Sudeikis and Mikey Day. Other highlights from Saturday’s season premiere included host Jean Smart in an “I Love Lucy” skit, Yang as child hippo Moo Deng and Charli XCX, a “Spirit Halloween” gag, and performances by musical visitor Jelly Roll.
