With the Washington Capitals celebrating their fiftieth anniversary, NoVa Caps is summarizing every of their earlier seasons, from earliest to most up-to-date. The sequence continues with the 1991-1992 season, their 18th season.

SUMMARY

Washington began the 12 months on hearth, going 9-3 in October and averaging 4.7 targets per recreation. While the staff couldn’t maintain that tempo the complete 12 months, they completed with a 45-27-8 document for 98 factors, good for second in the Patrick Division and residential ice in the opening-round assembly with Pittsburgh.

The Capitals had seven gamers that scored 20 or extra targets that season. For the common season, they ranked 2nd out of 22 groups in targets for and 10th out of 22 in targets in opposition to. [Note: the San Jose Sharks had entered the league as an expansion team that season.]

Led by gamers like Dino Ciccarelli, Rod Langway, and Dale Hunter the Caps poised for a deep playoff run after taking a 3-1 sequence lead in opposition to Pittsburgh. But after that, every thing fell aside, and due to Penguins ahead Mario Lemieux, the Caps blew the remaining three video games and misplaced in seven.
