With Florida Atlantic's offense off to a disappointing begin to the 2024 marketing campaign, head coach Tom Herman instructed reporters on Tuesday that backup quarterback Kasen Weisman will “play at a scripted time” within the Owls' upcoming sport against Wagner on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Weisman performed sparingly final weekend in FAU's 48-14 loss to UConn, trying only one go that was not accomplished in a single drive of motion. He entered the sport late in place of beginning quarterback Cam Fancher, who has but to his stride in what enters Week 5 because the 117th-ranked passing offense and One hundred and twenty fifth-ranked whole offense within the nation.

Herman is hoping that the inclusion of Weisman within the Owls' gameplan may help invigorate the offense in a single of two methods.

“I've got to do things as the head coach to create some kind of meaningful change. And if that is the play of Kasen when he gets in, great. If that is Kasen being there and Cam knowing and playing better because of it, then even better,” Herman mentioned.

The Colorado switch was a post-spring inclusion to FAU's 2024 portal class, as he dedicated to the Owls on April 27. He didn't publish any statistics in his lone season with the Buffaloes.

Coming out of highschool, the Atlanta product was thought-about a three-star prospect and the 66th-best quarterback within the 2023 class. He selected Colorado over presents from Kansas, California and Tulane, in addition to FAU.

In his senior season at South Paulding (Ga.), Weisman led the Spartans to an 8-4 document and a primary spherical look within the Peach State's 6A playoffs. In the primary 11 video games of the yr (in response to MaxPreps), he accomplished 63.9% of his passes for 1,756 yards with 15 touchdowns and 9 9 interceptions. The area common additionally ran for 242 yards and three extra scores whereas averaging 5.8 yards per carry.

Here's what 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins mentioned about Weisman in a July 2022 analysis of the 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback:

“A gamer that doesn't seem to lack much, if any, confidence on Friday nights. Not big, but not exactly small at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. The type of quarterback that isn't afraid to improvise or take a shot and has done both while operating out of a single-back spread attack at South Paulding. Can set his feet and let it rip, but tends to make some of his best throws on the move as he will layer the ball to all different levels while evading pressure in the pocket. Shouldn't exactly be labeled as a runner, but has experience coordinating RPOs and owns an above-average testing profile (has a laser-timed 4.8 in the 40-yard dash on record to go along with a 4.3 in the short shuttle). Must cut down on mistakes and learn when a negative play is better than a turnover, but has some of the required skills to eventually win games at the Power Five level. Likely to find most success in a modern pro-style system that features a ton of motion and allows quarterbacks to find a rhythm.”

Since his arrival at FAU, Weisman's zip on his passes and his confidence have improved, in response to Herman. The head coach additionally talked about bodily progress from Weisman as nicely.

Weisman, Herman says, “does everything really good.” If this well-roundedness can translate over to reside video games, it could be essential for an FAU offense that has been stricken with inconsistency on the quarterback place up to now this season.

“Since he's gotten here, he's gotten a lot more zip on the ball. I think he's playing with more confidence now when he gets in,” Herman mentioned about Weisman. “I think it's pretty cool, the growth that we've seen from him, and not just emotionally and maturity-wise, but also physically too. The ball is coming off of his hands with more zip. He's playing with a little bit more confidence than he had in terms of moving in the pocket, eyes in the right place, that kind of stuff. I don't know that skill-set-wise, you're going to see a whole lot different. I think it's just going to be a matter of, ‘Does he see the game any differently, maybe, or make different decisions.' He's a good runner and a good passer. He's not going to throw it through that wall. He's not going to run a 4.3 40 (yard dash), but he's not a statue. He does everything really good, let's put it that way. I don't know that he's got one great, tangible quality, but he's got a lot of really good ones.”
