Netflix this morning unveiled the first trailer for Lonely Planet, its romance starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth, which is slated to premiere on the streamer on October eleventh.
Written and directed by Susannah Grant (Unbelievable), Lonely Planet watches as a reclusive novelist (Dern) arrives at a prestigious author’s retreat in Morocco, hoping the distant setting will unlock her author’s block. While there, she meets a younger man (Hemsworth)— and what begins as an acquaintanceship evolves into an intoxicating, life-altering love affair.
All the rage at the second in movie, the May-December romance can also be on show in Babygirl, Halina Reijn’s follow-up to Bodies Bodies Bodies, which is coming off of screenings at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. Starring Dern’s Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, that movie hits theaters by way of A24 on December 25. Lonely Planet and Babygirl are coming to viewers on the heels of Todd Haynes darkish comedy May December, a Netflix title starring Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman and Charles Melton, which nabbed various Oscar and Golden Globe nominations after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival. Other current movies highlighting the development embody Prime Video’s hit The Idea of You, starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, and Netflix’s A Family Affair, with Kidman, Zac Efron and Joey King.
Also starring Diana Silvers, Younès Boucif, Adriano Giannini and Rachida Brakni, Lonely Planet is produced by Grant, in addition to Sarah Timberman and Liza Chasin of 3dot Productions. Brendan Ferguson, Corinne Weber, and Margaret Chernin served as government producers. The movie continues the artistic partnership between Netflix and 3dot, which produced the streamer’s Anatomy of a Scandal, based mostly on the guide by Sarah Vaughan. It additionally reunites the firm with Grant, who co-created Netflix’s Peabody Award-winning true crime miniseries Unbelievable, starring Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, and Kaitlyn Dever.
