Chip Gaines, companion of Joanna Gaines, has a new chapter in life forward of him, and he's considering the upcoming change.
As we transfer into subsequent month, on November 14, the previous HGTV celeb will mark his milestone fiftieth birthday.
He and his partner, who herself remains to be roughly 4 years away from the fifth flooring, have been united since 2003, and have 5 offspring collectively: Drake, 19, who not too long ago started his sophomore yr of faculty at Baylor University, Ella Rose, 17, Duke, who not too long ago celebrated his sixteenth birthday, Emmie Kay, 14, and Crew, six.
To acknowledge the upcoming milestone, Chip wrote a reflective composition for the Fall 2024 version of Magnolia Journal, and contemplated on sagacity, his childhood goals of evolving into a sagacious elder, and the teachings he has acquired.
“Sagacity — where to locate it, how to retain it, who to bestow it upon — has been a pursuit of mine since I was a child,” he first elaborated, including that “similar to the individuals you observe at the park or the beach with their metal detectors combing the sand,” throughout his youth, he was “out there with my sensor, scanning my tiny corner of the world for exemplars of individuals I believed might possess the grand secrets of the cosmos, individuals who I believed possessed the sagacity that could guide me to my desired destination.”
He remarked: “I'd become fixed on the notion that only a limited group could harbor such riches, and I pursued the ones who seemed promising. What I'd label the ‘wise elder citizens' of our society. The sort of individuals others informed me I'd be prudent to trail. And if the timing was right, when I'd detect one of them, I wouldn't hesitate to approach, inquire what I could, and hope they'd entertain me.”
Now at “about the same age as those ‘wise elder citizens' I used to shadow,” he's pondering his voyage to sagacity and reaching 50. “That's half a century that I've spent a part of this Earth,” he talked about, recollecting: “I commenced toil so intensely, and so swiftly, at such a young age — always competing against an invisible clock — I kind of believed that by 50 I could have encountered a multitude of existences. Certainly, five decades should have been ample time to accumulate all the sagacity of the universe, all those secrets I had yearned to investigate. Without a doubt, I presumed, by age 50 I would be a ‘wise elder' myself.”

And with that, he is imparting a few of his sagacity. “It isn't gained by shadowing the few, but rather, by tuning in to the collective. To put it differently, sagacity isn't acquired when we're attuned to the ‘right' individuals,” he acknowledged, underscoring: “It's gained when we're attuned to individuals — in general.”
“You could opt to shape your outlook based on uniformity, but I can assure you that well dries up rapidly, and what you're left with is nothing more than an echo chamber. But open yourself up to establishing connections in large numbers and what you acquire is a collection of encounters — dynamic enough to extract sagacity you were not even aware to seek,” he additional ruminated.

Chip continued: “This, I believe, is the concealed gateway to genuine sagacity. Instead of functioning as adherents, we can behave more like pollinators, garnering ideas from one spot and transporting them elsewhere.”

“Rather than traversing through life skimming for the ‘right' individuals to share our time with, we recognize the value of what accumulates. When we admit more individuals, we all benefit from it.”
His “bottom line,” he conveyed, is: “If you're intrigued by sagacity, you must be intrigued by authentic connection, the type that has no goal in mind except closeness. That's it. That's my significant counsel. Be inquisitive. Engage with individuals you are familiar with and individuals you are not. Listen, and then listen more intently. Tune in to individuals — in general. I am convinced we all possess something to contribute to one another. If you concur as well, then let's reside in a manner that validates us both as sagacious.”
