Nick Saban discusses the “kiss of death” for teams, but does it affect Alabama-Georgia? | Sports

Date:

The most essential factor is successful, or is it?

Nick Saban revealed on Friday the “kiss of death” for a crew is a bit more difficult.

“Play poorly and win,” Saban mentioned throughout his weekly look on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “That is the kiss of death.”

The purpose, the former Alabama coach defined, is the mindset of the participant shifting ahead.

“Guys don’t always want to respond,” he mentioned. “They look at you like, ‘Hey, coach, we won the game. Why you upset, making us practice and all that.’

“When you lose, they are saying ‘When are we going to practice,’ not, ‘Why are we practicing?’ There is a big difference in mindset.”

That’s what makes long-term success and, even, greatness so troublesome to realize.

“The really great competitors always keep that great mindset,” the ESPN “College GameDay” analyst shared. “They want to be the best they can be. It’s not just about winning and losing. It’s about how good can I be.”

So does that imply Alabama has the edge over visiting Georgia on Saturday after the Bulldogs struggled to beat Kentucky two weeks in the past, 13-12. Not essentially.

“Knowing (Georgia coach) Kirby (Smart), knowing Georgia, knowing the kind of success and expectations they have as a team, I would say that winning that close game was a positive thing for them to be able to say, ‘Hey, we need to be able to make some corrections here.’ … I think the players probably were very receptive to that, and I think the bye week was probably a very welcomed time for them.”

Branson Robinson rushed for a 3-yard, go-ahead landing early in the fourth quarter, and top-ranked Georgia overcame a torpid efficiency to rally previous after which maintain off Kentucky two weeks in the past. The Bulldogs trailed 9-3 early in the third but acquired inside three on Peyton Woodring’s 30-yard area aim earlier than mounting their longest drive of the evening.

Trevor Etienne’s 12-yard run, 11-yard move reception and 8-yard rush acquired the Bulldogs to the Kentucky 29. The Florida switch then broke proper for a 17-yard run to the 11, stepping out of bounds as he tip-toed down the sideline attempting to succeed in the finish zone. Robinson took it in from there three performs later for Georgia’s first lead.
